Bariatric Patients may apply for Early Release of Superannuation based on ‘Compassionate Medical Grounds’, to cover the out of pocket costs associated with surgery.
To be eligible for Compassionate Release of Superannuation to pay for your Out of Pocket expenses, you must meet the strict eligibility requirements below:
To apply for Early Release of Superannuation you will need to register for a "myGov" account. For further information visit the Australian Taxation Office website at www.ato.gov.au/earlysuper

You can apply online, or you can request a paper application form. Please be aware that applications may take up to 28 days to process. It is a patient’s responsibility to follow up on their applications.

The Australian Taxation Office will NOT approve your application if you pay for your surgery from other fund sources prior to your surgery date.
Processing time is approximately 28 business days, so please start your application as soon as possible, and continue to follow up your application with the ATO if you do not hear from them within two weeks from lodging your application.
